Unleash creativity this Sunday – a call for creativity and boldness from our clergyThe outpouring of sentiment after the news of Steve Job’s death yesterday shouldn’t take us by surprise yet I will admit to be taken aback by the level of lionizing that is pouring across the web. What seems to be a meta theme in these postings is the inspirational role Jobs has played as a “21st century Thomas Edison” and a trailblazer led by creativity and ease of user interface. In … There’s more to read here.

What I learned on summer vacation – random thoughts at the end of the road
Each summer I have taken my family on a road trip through some of America’s national parks. Last summer we did the California redwoods, Yosemite National Park, and the Oregon Coast. This summer we worked our way through more of the Oregon Trail and down into Utah – Zion National Park, Arches National Park, Dead Horse Point, and some white water rafting on the Colorado River in Moab. These … There’s more to read here.

Bidding ‘Adieu’ to the boy wizard: Harry Potter as ‘Shema’ and why Christians need to say thank you to JK RowlingJuly 15th, 2011 we “see” and “hear” the end of the Harry Potter saga in its final installment of the Warner Brothers movie franchise that began back in 2000 and with the close of the end credits the summation of one of the most enduring ‘coming of age’ tales in modern history. By see and hear I underscore that the ending of the Harry Potter saga – Harry Potter and the Deathly … There’s more to read here.

Lenten music: Bonhoeffer, Dead Poet’s Society and the gift of being an alternative songI wanted to share a portion of a letter from Dietrich Bonhoeffer written to his friend Eberhard Bethge while Bonhoeffer was in prison. Taproot Theatre is currently showing a marvelous dramatization of Bonhoeffer’s last days called “The Beams are Creaking” and it led me to re-read his Letters and Papers from Prison. Given that I just finished a book on pop music and that I think most naturally in … There’s more to read here.

True Myth – there is no faith without fantasyArtist Dan Meth recently posted a map of the ‘fantasy world’ that pulls together over 30 different fictional/fantasy worlds into one glorious landscape – Narnia, Middlearth, Earthsea, Wonderland, Never Never Land, Oz, Whoville, Florian, the Land of the Lost, you name it. What I love about the map is how by glancing at it I am drawn back into the narratives, characters, plotlines and epic grandeur of these places that … There’s more to read here. |
